Why do patients NEED a referral?

This goes alongside my closing question. Why do patients NEED a referral?
They want to cause sure people single go to a specialist if they categorically have to. They suppose that, for instance, someone with constipation will progress to a gastric specialist, instead of going to the doctor and getting simple instructions to eat more fiber. Unfortunately, this can grounds problems when your primary doctor KNOWS exactly what is wrong with you and won't allow you to win a second opinion, or see someone next to more experience with your condition.
For collection purposes. So if you don't wages your bill and they can't get a hold of you, they know someone who can. Sometimes the information is also for selling as well. Who know, maybe they really entail to talk to someone surrounded by the event something were to step wrong. Highly doubt it but its usually for the first two points.
Basically your insurance wants to craft sure your primary doctor can take prudence of it first - Paying your Primary Dr is cheaper than paying a specialist to the insurance company.
That depends on your insurance. If you have an HMO you enjoy to go through your primary meticulousness doctor. If you have a PPO you don't obligation a referral and can go to any doctor surrounded by the plan without a referral.
